About this site and us... Print E-mail

Welcome!

This web community was created for everyone interested in Roskilde Festival, the yearly music festvial in Roskilde, Denmark.

It is in no way officially affiliated with the Roskilde Festival organization.

Please be nice to the people you will meet here...

This website is run by Axel (honx dudelab dot org) and Friedel (taupan dudelab dot org).

What's here?

Actually, since you found this text, you already know about the Main Menu on the left. And you've also seen the main page with the most recent news items from our members. The other items on the menu are:

  • The Forum: Discussions about everything roskilde, feedback to us and also the odd bit of news that wasn't really worth its own article. You need to register on this site in order to be able to post on the forum or submit news items and articles.
  • The #roskilde Chat: For realtime interaction with other roskilde freaks. You don't need to register to use the chat. Change the "Dude...." nickname into your preferred nickname and go for it! There will be a couple of people logged on but they're not watching the chat window every second, so you'll need to wait more than a few minutes (sometimes hours) before someone will react. See also http://www.mirc.com/ircintro.html. You can also use an irc client (such as mirc) to connect to the chat. It's #roskilde on ircnet.
  • Roskilde How-Tos: Survival guides from our roskilde festival veterans.
  • News: Our news archive.
  • Links: A small bunch of noteworthy websites.
  • Search: Not powered by google.

There's also the shoutbox, which serves as our kitchen wall for temporary post-it notes and graffity. If you've got something to get off your chest, shout! It won't last long, but some people will hear it.

After you've registered you will also see the "User Menu", which allows you to edit your profile, see the other users on this site, and submit news and links.

History

Some time in early 2002, 3 guys from germany decided to create an irc channel to discuss their upcoming trip to Roskilde Festival in Denmark. "#roskilde" wasn't taken, so it was the obvious choice.

A channel party of some sorts took place in the chill-out tent during 2002 roskilde festival

The channel #roskilde was kept alive during the year and a small band of regulars from all over europe gathered together: A guy from sicily (ciao to Queequeg, if you read this!), a lady from poland, a guy from iceland and a few germans. The second channel party, this time officially anounced, took place during the 2003 roskilde festival in front of the camping stage.

In 2003 the history of ircnet #roskilde and the roskilde chatgang started to merge as Friedel (one of the original 3) started to use the official chat as well and met with the chatgang in 2003.

Several times when the official chat was broken again, which happens every year, #roskilde served as replacement chat.

Around 2005, honx (another one of the first three #roskilde members) started setting up this site as an experimental replacement community, and as an alternative frontend to both #roskilde and the official chat.

So now you know at last why we call this the "#roskilde Community".
